Power of One Stories
When Walking Away is Not an Option
When Walking Away is Not an Option
The Man Behind the Shelter
Sometimes the most extraordinary acts of humanity never make the headlines. They happen quietly, when one person decides that turning their back is not an option.
For more than 20 years, Saeed Al Err has been that person. In the Gaza Strip, he founded the Sulala Society for Animal Care, a sanctuary for stray, injured, and abandoned animals. His shelter is now home to hundreds of dogs and dozens of cats, each with a story of survival that began the moment Saeed reached them.
Choosing to Stay
When crisis struck Gaza, many would have thought only of their own safety. Saeed stayed. As the chaos closed in, he loaded 120 cats into carriers and moved them into safer apartments. For the dogs, he walked miles on foot, guiding them to safety one by one.
Food was running out. Fuel was scarce. Windows shattered. Supplies dwindled. The world around him grew louder and more dangerous. Still, Saeed’s focus never shifted from the animals looking up at him, trusting him with everything they had.
The Power of One
This is what the Power of One looks like. One man. One choice to act. One refusal to give up.
If you have ever wondered whether a single person can make a difference, remember Saeed. And then remember this: you can be that person too.
How You Can Help
Rescue begins with the decision not to walk away. If you are considering adoption, fostering, or supporting a shelter, reach out to your local rescue or consider adopting from abroad.
Because you never know whose life your choice could change.
