WarPaws Rescue: The Story of Togo
WarPaws Rescue operates in one of the most challenging environments, caring for over 700 dogs at their shelter in Iraq. These animals, who have endured unimaginable hardship, find their only hope for safety, recovery, and a chance at a new life through WarPaws’ efforts.
At Power of One, we frequently witness the depths of cruelty innocent animals face. Recently, we were deeply moved and outraged by Togo’s story—a German Shepherd found on the brink of death, scavenging on a plastic bottle to survive after being abandoned and horrifically abused.

Togo’s Ordeal
Togo was discovered by Ashti, who had been tirelessly searching after seeing him attacked by other dogs. What she initially thought was a torn ear turned out to be far worse. When Oriana began treating him, she uncovered an air gun pellet embedded in his neck—one of ten bullets that had been heartlessly fired into his body. This beautiful dog had been cruelly tied up, shot multiple times, and left to suffer alone.
The Road to Recovery
Following days of searching, Togo underwent a long and painful surgery to remove four of the pellets. Although he is still emaciated, suffering from ulcerated ears and sharp burrs embedded in his skin, he has begun his recovery journey. With months of healing ahead, Togo’s strength and resilience inspire us all. But his recovery depends on your support.
Help Give Togo—and Others Like Him—a Second Chance
Togo’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of the countless animals who endure unimaginable cruelty. Without the dedication of organizations like WarPaws and the generosity of supporters like you, dogs like Togo would have no hope for a second chance.
We are currently raising funds for Togo’s ongoing care. With your help, we can ensure he receives the medication, attention, and love he desperately needs to heal.
