From Highway Hero to Fearless Firefighter

Oriana’s journey to becoming a firefighter in Washington State started with a harrowing experience on a remote highway. She found herself face to face with a trapped woman, Darlene, after a devastating collision. Despite lacking formal training, Oriana’s instinct to help kicked in, but the experience left her feeling powerless.

Determined to never feel that helplessness again, Oriana embarked on a path to become an Emergency Medical Technician and later a firefighter, dedicating herself to serving her community.

Beyond Borders: A Tale of Compassion

But her story doesn’t end there. Oriana’s journey took her beyond borders when she found herself in Iraq, where she encountered a brave street dog named Big Girl and her pack.

Despite the challenges and dangers, Oriana’s heart led her to care for these vulnerable animals, forging unlikely friendships with locals who shared her compassion. Tragically, she witnessed Big Girl’s heartbreaking demise, but from that pain emerged a new mission: to save and protect every animal she could.

From organizing blood drives to mentoring female firefighters, Oriana’s impact extends far beyond the flames she’s battled. Her unwavering commitment to animal rescue led her to War Paws, where she continues to pour her heart and soul into the Erbil shelter, despite the inevitable heartaches.
