Power of One Stories

Meet Louise Hastie

Power of one louise

A remarkable individual whose journey epitomizes the dedication and selflessness of front-line animal rescue workers.

Her story is a testament to the resilience, sacrifices, and commitment it takes to make a difference in the lives of innocent creatures, especially in the most challenging and perilous situations.

From her earliest memories, Louise’s heart has been intertwined with a profound love for animals. A deep-rooted passion led her to stand up for those who couldn’t speak for themselves. Even as a young child, she couldn’t turn a blind eye to any creature in need, often bringing home pets from pet shops she felt weren’t being properly cared for.

Her life’s trajectory shifted dramatically when she made the decision to join the Territorial Army. Little did she know that her path would soon lead her to the war-torn landscapes of Iraq. Amidst the chaos and turmoil of conflict, amidst the gunfire and devastation, Louise’s compassion remained unwavering.

It was here, amidst the suffering and despair, that she encountered a small beacon of hope in the form of Simba Al Tikriti, a tiny kitten in desperate need.

Though regulations strictly prohibited interaction with local animals, Louise couldn’t turn away from Simba’s plea for help. Braving the risks, she smuggled him into her room, providing care and comfort against all odds.

Her act of compassion was not without peril; it meant risking her job and facing significant challenges. However, driven by an unwavering determination to make a difference, Louise orchestrated a daring plan to bring Simba to safety in the UK, navigating obstacles and closed borders with resilience and courage.

Simba’s rescue marked the inception of a transformative movement. Soldiers, inspired by Louise’s bravery and compassion, sought her assistance in rescuing animals they had formed bonds with in conflict zones. This marked the beginning of her journey as a front-line animal rescuer, a path that demanded balancing a demanding security job with nighttime rescue missions.

Despite the odds stacked against her, Louise dedicated herself wholeheartedly to saving hundreds of lives.

Her commitment led her to Afghanistan, where she aligned herself with a charity, erected shelters, and conducted countless daring rescues. Despite facing setbacks and encountering disagreements, Louise persevered. She crowdfunded to bring her rescued animals back to the safety of the UK and continued her mission by volunteering with organizations like War Paws, extending critical aid to animals in conflict zones like Iraq.

Today, Louise stands as a pillar of strength and compassion in her role at a local animal shelter.

Her tireless efforts ensure that countless animals receive the care, love, and support they so rightly deserve.

Louise’s story embodies the sacrifices and resilience of front-line rescue workers who navigate perilous situations to save innocent lives. Their dedication often goes unrecognized, and it’s our collective responsibility to change this narrative.
