Lisanne's Compassionate Journey: Transforming Lives One Dog at a Time

Meet Lisanne,

In the heart of Aydin, Turkey, resides force behind Melez Dog Rescue, a story woven with dedication, empathy, and an unwavering love for animals.

Lisanne’s journey spans continents, but her story isn’t just about geographical transitions; it’s a testament to the transformative power of compassion. Hailing from the Netherlands and journeying through England before finding her calling in Turkey, her childhood fascination with caring for animals evolved into an unyielding passion.

Growing up without dogs didn’t dampen Lisanne’s empathy. Her childhood adventures running a Beanie Baby hospital and tending to the insect graveyard in her garden were sparks that ignited a blazing passion. This fiery dedication led her to establish Melez Dog Rescue in 2018, where she made Turkey her home alongside her Turkish husband.

Since its inception, Melez Dog Rescue has been a sanctuary for over 200 dogs, guiding them into loving homes across borders. Amidst the success stories lies Zula, a Greyhound mix whose slender frame belies a resilient heart. Through Lisanne’s unwavering care, Zula triumphed over health obstacles, embodying the resilience of the rescued dogs under her wing.

Lisanne’s collaboration with Animal Friends Of Turkey (AFOT) transcends a mere partnership; it’s a testament to kindred spirits united by a shared mission. Her connection with Carol and the AFOT team burgeoned from rescuing Max, a dog finding a new, loving home through their joint efforts. This bond flourished as they exchanged support, advice, and eventually led Lisanne to join forces with AFOT.

Becoming part of the AFOT committee opened new vistas for Lisanne. Transitioning from solitary rescue work to a dedicated team environment offered fresh perspectives. As a Trustee, her commitment to rehoming echoes her belief that every dog deserves safety and affection. The camaraderie, passion, and professionalism within AFOT rejuvenated her spirit, reinforcing her unwavering belief that where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Yet, Lisanne’s work isn’t just a vocation; it’s a profound calling. It embodies the transformation of lives, exemplified by her commitment to ensuring every dog finds the love and care they rightfully deserve. Her journey, dedication, and partnership with AFOT illuminate the tireless efforts of frontline animal rescue workers, reminding us that compassion, coupled with action, creates ripples of change.

However, addressing Turkey’s street dog issue requires more than individual efforts. Lisanne advocates for a long-term, large-scale CNVR (Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release) project, recognizing the need for sustained, impactful measures to combat this pressing issue.

In Lisanne’s narrative, we discover a story not just about rescuing dogs, but about igniting hope, inspiring change, and showcasing the profound impact of compassion on every life touched, one dog at a time.
