Espanyol’s Football Team Stand for Abandoned Animals
At Power of One, we are constantly reminded of the power of community and are inspired by the recent actions of Espanyol’s football team in Spain. In a moving display of solidarity, Espanyol players took the field alongside abandoned dogs rather than traditional mascots for their La Liga match against Mallorca, sending a powerful message of hope and empathy for animals in need.

Espanyol’s Commitment to Animal Welfare
Espanyol’s initiative goes beyond a single event. It’s a movement to raise awareness about the plight of abandoned animals and to help them find loving homes. Last season alone, Espanyol’s campaign:
- Rescued 11 dogs from the streets, giving them a second chance at life.
- Collected over 2,000 kg of food and essential supplies, such as blankets and towels, through donations from fans.
This effort is a remarkable union of sports and animal welfare, demonstrating the impact of collective action in achieving meaningful change.

Game Day with a Purpose
Before the match, each starting player walked out with a rescue dog, symbolizing the bond that can form between humans and animals. Fans were encouraged to bring canned food and blankets for donation at the stadium—proof that when communities come together, they can make a tangible difference. Espanyol’s campaign stands as a reminder of the positive impact that sports communities can have on animal welfare.
Let’s create change for animals—one act of kindness at a time.
