Celebrating 20 Years of TOLFA

This month marks an incredible milestone, 20 years since TOLFA (Tree of Life for Animals) began their journey in the deserts of Rajasthan, India.

What started as a small shelter with a handful of volunteers and a vision to relieve animal suffering has grown into a lifeline for thousands of injured, abandoned, and sick animals every year.

From Humble Beginnings to Lifesaving Impact

TOLFA was founded by Rachel Wright, a UK veterinary nurse who moved to India and was deeply moved by the number of animals in need on the streets of Pushkar and Ajmer. From those early days of treating injured dogs and donkeys with basic supplies, TOLFA has become a fully equipped rescue and veterinary hospital, treating more than 500 animals at any one time and offering community education and outreach across the region.

Today, their dedicated team works tirelessly in the heat, floods, and droughts of Rajasthan, rescuing, healing, and protecting every animal they can reach. Whether it’s a street dog recovering from an accident, a working donkey receiving critical care, or community vaccination drives to prevent disease,

TOLFA’s impact reaches far beyond rescue.

What 20 Years Really Means

Twenty years of TOLFA isn’t just a number. It represents:

🐾 Healing the broken; thousands of animals treated, rehabilitated, and returned to safety.
🐾 Protecting the vulnerable; community education, sterilisation, and vaccination programmes that prevent suffering before it begins.
🐾 Inspiring a kinder world for animals; showing what long-term commitment and compassion can achieve.

Their journey hasn’t been easy. They’ve faced floods that wiped out shelters, droughts that stretched resources to breaking point, and the daily heartbreak of seeing more animals than any one team could possibly save. Yet through it all, they’ve never stopped showing up.

Why It Matters to Power of One

At Power of One, we believe real change doesn’t happen overnight. It’s built through years of care, small acts of kindness, and the courage to keep going when it feels impossible.

TOLFA’s story is living proof of that belief. Their work shows what happens when empathy turns into action when people refuse to look away and choose to keep caring, day after day, for twenty years.

Every animal saved, every life improved, and every bit of hope restored is the result of that quiet persistence.

Here’s to 20 Years of Love, Rescue, and Resilience 💙

From everyone at Power of One, we celebrate TOLFA’s incredible milestone and the people behind it from the vets, the carers, the community workers, and the countless supporters who have made two decades of healing possible.

Here’s to many more years of saving lives and inspiring change.
