Animal Friends of Turkey (AFOT) is a UK-registered charity dedicated to offering a second chance to the broken, abused, neglected, and abandoned dogs in Turkey’s South West region. Led by a group of resilient women, AFOT tirelessly works to rehabilitate these animals and find them loving forever homes.
The Challenges:
Turkey hosts tens of thousands of stray dogs, each facing daily struggles for survival. From road traffic accidents to starvation, poisonings, mistreatment, and neglect, these animals endure immense hardships. The absence of effective neutering programs perpetuates their suffering, leaving many in a grim fate.
The Reality:
While AFOT currently provides sanctuary for 25 dogs, they aim to double their impact with your support. Brenda, an inspiring woman, oversees the AFOT Ortaca Sanctuary, dedicating her life to offering a safe haven for those in need. Despite limited resources, Brenda tirelessly transforms neglected land into a peaceful sanctuary, providing a home for old, sick, and abandoned animals.
The Solution:
To double the sanctuary’s capacity and provide ongoing care for an additional 25 dogs, AFOT plans to expand key areas:
- A new enclosure for play and socialisation.
- An expanded house balcony and garden area for home experience.
- Two large enclosures with secure cabins for individual spaces and socialisation.
