A decade ago, Laura Myatt began a journey that would go on to change thousands of lives.

After leaving Hertfordshire to dedicate herself to rescue work in Romania, Laura became the driving force behind Sadie’s Dog Rescue. What followed was not just ten years of rescuing dogs. It was ten years of care, pressure, heartbreak, rehoming, spaying, neutering, difficult decisions and relentless commitment.

Sadie’s Dog Rescue has become a lifeline for stray, abandoned and vulnerable dogs in and around Bacau. It has also become a community of people who understand that rescue is not one moment of kindness. It is a long term commitment to animals who have often been failed long before help arrives.

The Reality Behind the Rescue

From the outside, rescue can sometimes look like a simple story.

A dog is found. A dog is saved. A dog is rehomed.

But anyone close to animal welfare knows the reality is far more demanding than that.

It is the constant pressure of too many animals needing help. It is the emotional weight of deciding who can be saved when resources are limited. It is the daily responsibility of food, shelter, treatment, transport, foster care, adoption checks and emergency decisions. It is the exhaustion of carrying on when the need never seems to slow down.

Laura once wrote:

“Digging deep… Most women can remember a time when this action was their only option but being a rescuer comes with the need to continually dig deeper than many could ever comprehend…”

That says so much about what rescue asks of people.

It asks them to keep finding strength when they are already tired. To keep caring when the emotional cost is high. To keep going when the next urgent case is already waiting.

More Than a Rescue

Sadie’s Dog Rescue is more than a shelter name or a rehoming page.

It is a network of care built around dogs who might otherwise have had no route to safety. It is Laura, Bobo, volunteers, adopters, supporters and everyone who has helped create better outcomes for dogs who were once stray, unwanted, injured or at risk.

Over the years, thousands of animals have been rescued, cared for, rehomed, spayed or neutered through the work connected to Sadie’s. Dogs who may have remained on the streets have been given shelter. Dogs who may never have known safety have been given homes. Dogs who were once invisible have become part of families across the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and beyond.

It is not just a celebration of how long Sadie’s has existed. It is a recognition of the thousands of individual moments where someone chose not to look away.

There are never enough spaces. Never enough funds. Never enough hours in the day. The emotional strain on rescuers is enormous, especially when they are faced with suffering that could often have been prevented.
