One Opportunity Can Shape a Future

One Opportunity Can Shape a Future

On the rural edges of Kruger National Park, options are limited. For many young adults in the region, life paths can narrow quickly, especially when support systems fall away.

That’s why programmes like HAART’s Mbaula Personal Development & Environmental Education Programme matter so much.

Recently, a group of young people became the first to stay at the new Koru Camp. For some, it was the first time they’d had space to reflect, build confidence, and be guided towards new possibilities.

Over a few powerful days, they:

🐆 Came face to face with lions, leopards, elephants — and even a Boomslang snake.
💬 Shared their fears, hopes, and visions for a better life.
🧭 Found mentorship in people like Bongani and Humphrey, who helped them reconnect with their potential.

But it was more than a trip. It was a turning point.

Workshops on communication, goal setting, interview prep, and environmental education gave them tools to carry forward. Many faced fears head-on, spoke publicly for the first time, and began to see their place in the world, not just as observers, but as protectors of the wildlife and land around them.

This is the kind of work we champion at Power of One.

Work that gives people a platform, not just a moment.
Work that quietly shifts what’s possible.

Real impact doesn’t need to be loud.

 It just needs to last.

Thank you to Global 2by2 for making this experience possible.
