Helping Families in Need: RSPCA Expands Pet Food Bank Scheme
As the cost of living crisis continues to impact families across the UK, many are finding it increasingly difficult to afford essentials, including pet food. In response to this pressing issue, the RSPCA has announced plans to expand its pet food bank scheme, marking its 200th birthday year.
The initiative, which currently operates with 140 food banks in northern England, will now extend its reach nationwide. It not only provides food but also offers veterinary vouchers for urgent care.
Alison Fletcher, RSPCA national food bank coordinator, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, “Sadly, our rescuers often come across people who are struggling to feed themselves and will actually go without food themselves so they can afford to feed their pets. Pets offer major comfort to loving owners in challenging times, and they shouldn’t feel forced to give them up—as they are members of the family—so we are providing what many users describe as a ‘lifeline’.”
