A Critical Moment for War Paws

Our friends at War Paws are facing the biggest challenge in their history.

After nearly seven years of building a safe haven for hundreds of animals in Iraq, they are now being evicted from the land where their shelter and veterinary clinic stand.

This is not just a relocation. It is a situation that puts everything they have built at risk.

What Has Been Built From Nothing

What started as a patch of dirt has become a fully functioning sanctuary.

Over the years, through consistent effort and support from people around the world, War Paws has created a space that provides real care and protection for animals who would otherwise have none.

Kennels that offer safety.
A working veterinary clinic delivering treatment and care.
Shaded areas to protect dogs from extreme conditions.
Even swimming pools to help regulate temperature and improve wellbeing.

Every part of this has been built through dedication, resilience and community support.

What Is Now at Risk

That entire space is now under threat.

If War Paws are forced to leave, they will need to rebuild everything from the ground up. Securing new land, reconstructing facilities and ensuring animals continue to receive care.

The cost is significant. The timeframe is uncertain.

Without urgent support, hundreds of dogs risk losing their home, their safety and access to the treatment they rely on.

The Reality on the Ground

This situation is made even more challenging by the wider conditions in the region.

War, instability and ongoing uncertainty create additional pressure on both people and animals. Resources are harder to secure. Logistics are more complex. Every step forward requires more effort.

Despite this, the War Paws team continue to show up every day.

They are still rescuing. Still treating. Still caring for the animals who depend on them. They have not stepped away, even in the face of this level of uncertainty.

Why This Matters

At Power of One, we share stories like this because they highlight what is really at stake.

War Paws is not just a shelter. It is a lifeline for animals that have nowhere else to go.

Removing that lifeline has real consequences. Supporting it creates real impact.

Every contribution helps move them closer to securing new land, rebuilding their shelter and continuing their work.

Every donation, no matter the size, contributes to protecting the future of this sanctuary and the animals within it.

A Team That Refuses to Walk Away

War Paws has always been built on commitment.

The team on the ground continue to fight for these animals, regardless of the challenges in front of them.

They are not walking away. And with the right support, they will be able to continue their work.

Awareness plays a critical role in moments like this.

The more people who see this, the more support can be generated.
